Midsummer 2012

Once again, on midsummer we headed out to Rödhamn to celebrate the midsummer. The weather was in our favor and the sun was shining on a clear blue sky. We had packed the boat with loads of drinks and food already during the morning and we were waiting for our guests to arrive.

DH had planned to have the engine running when they arrived but that didn't quite work as planned. When turning the key.... nothing happened. The darn battery was empty. Well, DH is a man with solutions to everything and he jumped in the car and went to get a battery charger. Approximately at the same time as our guests arrived, DH was back and thought to try the key once again.... and the darn thing started. (lol)

Well well, we helped our guests on board and off we went. Just as we had passed the fishing harbour we got company of those huge passenger ferries, Silja Line. We sat on the deck and waved to people on the big ship and everybody on board on that ship waved back.

It was already past midday and everyone was really hungry so I served lunch immediately. It was a salad with grilled chicken and herb potatoes and taco sauce. It was so yummy ! Everyone was eating.... even my kids !

Here are some pictures from the trip and our guests.
Mr Lawyer and cutie face (the child !)

He was a bit suspicious about this boat thing...

No, dear, you are too young to drink that stuff ! eventhough it is just Mountain Dew.

Rödhamn pier at midsummer. All boats celebrating with the flags.

The smallest crew member had to be carried part of the rocky road.

The cafe is still a bit empty. Everyone is charging for the big party...

As per tradition, we go to the sauna every midsummer. So also this year. This is the member sauna on the other side of the island. A short walk away from the piers. Nice and quiet here. See the steps into the sea, in the middle where the rock ends ? I did NOT use them this year ! The water was cold !

In the evening, when the sun casts it's soft yellowy beams we headed back home. This is not, however, where the midsummer eve ends, though...

 Sunset over Möckelö

When we came home, we took the most important stuff from the boat and headed up to our veranda. There we could see the view over the sea and sit in shelter from the huge blood thirsty insects that fly around in these parts in the evenings. We sat there chatting and we even invited our neighbours to come and join us at some point of the night.

I could have sworn that we emptied a couple of wine bottles on the veranda, but seeing the result in the morning, I wonder if anyone of the gang would have a headache the next morning. I can say that a couple bottles was a minimal expression. Well, I did see a couple of them if I looked at a couple at a time. To our excuse I would say that we were 6 adults sharing !

Anyways, it was a nice midsummer celebration with good food and even better company. We did miss the official celebrations on the island but it didn't matter, we had a wonderful dinner in good company. And it is the feeling that counts !

That's all folks,
Hughs,
Susanna
