Our visit to Rovaniemi to meet Santa Claus

Hi there,
It's been few days since I last updated my blog. Now I'm back and thought I'd show you some pics from our trip to Rovaniemi with my family. This is a short description of our trip.

We landed on January the 2nd in Rovaniemi. Already at the airport we saw reindeers and ice bears.

January 3rd we spent the whole day in christmas spirit. First a visit to Santa Park.

The ice princess has her own room in Santa Park where she has an ice bar and her throne. We got to test it.

She also has beautiful sculptures of animals of the north. Unfortunately some people do not respect the great work and break things.

Her sledge was here too, pulled by three ice bears.

In Santa Park you can attend an elf-school.

Santa's got his own Facebook !

Here is an elf helping kids make their own small elf of wood, a bit of red fabric and cotton.

After the visit in Santa Park we continued to Santa Claus Village.
We took a ride on a reindeer sledge. Thomas and I shared one of the sledges and the reindeer that pulled us was called Mara. Just like the former president in Finland. Martti Ahtisaari is called Mara.

This is Mara.

This is Ässä who pulled the sledge of Stefan and dad.

After the reindeer ride we went for a 1/2 hour in the woods with snowmobiles. The kids got to drive their own ones, smaller ones than the adult ones.

Somewhere in the woods we stopped for a photo shoot.

We did, of course, meet the Santa himself. He was curious where we came from and the kids were a bit of surprised that he spoke such good swedish.

The next day, we went on a proper snowmobile safari. The safety is prio one as well as warm clothes. One could wear own clothes but they recommended to change into ones that they provided.
Warm socks, super warm boots, jump suit, a warm thing to put on your head under the helmet, gloves and woolen scarf.

This picture is from previous day but unfortunately the only picture of me.

Stefan, ready to go.

Our safari went to a husky farm. This farm had pup to 300 dogs. We got to take a tiny sledge drive with the dogs, just to get an idea of what it is like. After the short round trip, 5 min, we got a cup of warm berry juice and and introduction to the farm.

Then we were allowed to meet the dogs. Dogs in different ages all living outside chained to a stake and a small dog house giving the possibility to sleep comfortably.

Then we jumped on our snowmobiles and drove back to Rovaniemi city centre. Stefan got to sit with dad for a while. Otherwise the kids had to sit in a sledge that was pulled by the guide. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it. I was too busy being exited about driving my own snowmobile by myself.

So this is all I've got ! A short description of our trip to Rovaniemi to meet Santa Claus.
I do definitely recommend a visit here. Santa Claus is in his chambers every day of the year, well not during the christmas eve though, that's when he is kind of busy.

I have also learned how it's possible for santa to make his trip around the world in just one day. I'll leave you with these words from the Santa's elfs. Peek in soon again to see what I create of these pictures.

Hugs,
Susanna

There are numerous things that need to be thought over and managed when planning a trip around the world in one day. But there is a way. See, time can be curled. Right after the winter solstice when the sun doesn't come up at the Arctic Circle, and the northern lights flare over the northern hemisphere, it is possible to affect the speed of the rotation of the globe.
Have you ever felt that time runs slower when you're waiting for Santa Claus? Well it as a matter of fact does. Time runs slower when the worlds rotational speed regulator is used. The whole nature in the Arctic
knows this. Birds get together to keep warm, and polar foxes keep dancing their ancient Circle of Life dance on the longest night of the year.
Ferdie wanted to take part on the Great Big Journey, but the council of elfs didn't let him go. Now we know why. Today Santa has promoted Ferdie as the Key Holder. Key Holder is the boss of time, responsible for getting the twinkle into kids eyes, and the red to their cheeks. When everything is ready, it is time for Santa's visit. This is a special Christmas, its Ferdies first as a nominated Key Holder. It will be Ferdie who is in charge of slowing down time to help Santa, Rudolph and everyone else up in the North waiting for the big night. The council of elfs is sure that Santa's decision is right.
